Dear Veteran and Veteran Families....We are closely watching..

Scott Turner’s appointment as Secretary of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) is of critical concern to the KOVH Foundation, as the stability of thousands of veteran families depends on the policies and funding decisions made under his leadership. Section 8 housing assistance serves as a lifeline for many veterans who are facing financial hardships, recovering from foreclosure, or trying to rebuild stability after service-related challenges. Any reduction in funding or eligibility restrictions could have devastating consequences, pushing more veteran families toward housing insecurity or homelessness.

While Turner has spoken broadly about his commitment to addressing homelessness and improving efficiency within HUD, he has been notably vague about his stance on preserving or expanding Section 8. His past legislative history raises red flags, as he has previously supported measures that allow landlords to reject tenants using federal housing assistance. This signals a potential policy direction that could leave many struggling veteran families with fewer housing options and increased barriers to securing safe, affordable homes.

KOVH will be closely monitoring Turner’s leadership at HUD and any proposed changes that might threaten the stability of veteran households. We recognize that many veteran families recovering from foreclosure rely on Section 8 as a critical support system, and any funding cuts or policy shifts could make their path to stability even more challenging. Our commitment remains unwavering: we will advocate for legislative protections, mobilize our community to push back against harmful policies, and ensure that the voices of veteran families are heard at every level of decision-making.

Veterans and their families have sacrificed for this nation, and they deserve more than uncertainty when it comes to housing assistance. KOVH will continue to fight for policies that protect veteran homeowners and renters, ensuring they receive the support they need to stay housed and rebuild their lives.
